Activated alarm system foils Rizal pawnshop heist

MANILA, Philippines - An activated alarm system forced members of the so-called “Acetylene gang” to abandon their plan to rob a pawnshop in Tanay, Rizal last Thursday.

A concerned citizen called up the police at around 12:45 a.m. Thursday to report that the alarm system of the Maria Gracia Pawnshop located at the Tanay public market in Barangay Aldea had been activated.

Policemen rushed to the scene and found inside the pawnshop an acetylene tank, a bolt cutter, a mini gas tank, a screwdriver, and a flashlight.

Superintendent Samuel Delorino, Tanay police chief, thanked the residents for helping foil the robbery.
