2 frat members in Boracay rape-slay nabbed

MANILA, Philippines - Police arrested Sunday two fraternity members tagged in the rape-slay of a 16-year-old high school student in Boracay Island in Aklan in May last year.

Rodel Gelito, a resident of Barangay Balinghayapak, and Joseph Onate of Zone 3 Barangay Pinaungon, both in Boracay Island, did not resist arrest when cornered by police operatives in their respective houses.

Senior Superintendent Eddie Benigay, chief of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group-Region 6, said Gelito and Onate are members of the Alpha Kappa Rho fraternity.

Records shows that the victim, identified as Aprilyn Tana, along with seven other teenagers, joined the fraternity initiation rites during which she was raped and killed.

The victim’s decomposing body was found after three days inside a cave in Sitio Lapuslapos Hills, in Barangay Balabag.
