Bus ditches into tollway canal; 28 passengers hurt

Jaime Laude - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - A Mindoro-bound bus ditched into a concrete canal of the STAR tollway in Batangas on Friday, leaving 28 of its passengers injured, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said yesterday.

The brakes of the Dimple bus malfunctioned, and its driver, to avoid collision with other vehicles, steered it toward the right side of the highway, eventually causing it to ditch into the canal, the council said.

In Baguio City, four children aged six to 12 were injured when the Mitsubishi van they were riding also lost its brakes and hit a street post on Ferguson Road.
