PLACER, Surigao del Norte, Philippines – More than 1,000 residents of Masapelid Island here held prayer rallies in front of the town hall and the regional office of the Mines and Geosciences Bureau on Monday to appeal for the extension of the exploration activities of the Australian mining firm Bundok Mineral Resources Corp. which they said has given them jobs and livelihood opportunities.

The Masapelid folk braved the rain in front of the town hall for the prayer rally before proceeding to the MGB office in Surigao City. They took a one-hour boat ride from Masapelid to reach this town.
