7 dead, 19 hurt in separate road accidents

MANILA, Philippines - Seven people were killed, three of them on All Saints’ Day, and at least 19 others sustained injuries in road mishaps in Quezon, Pampanga, Pangasinan and Isabela, authorities said yesterday.

In Quezon, a pregnant woman and a driver were killed while five others, including two children, were seriously hurt when the Mitsubishi Lancer they were riding rammed a parked 10-wheeler cargo truck along Quirino Highway in Barangay Sta. Cecilia, Tagkawayan town on All Saints’ Day.

A report reaching Senior Superintendent Valeriano de Leon, Quezon police director, identified the fatalities as Danilo Arevalo who was driving the car, and Marissa Llandelar, who were both declared dead on arrival at the Mother Seton General Hospital in Naga City.

Injured were Ma. Jochelle Unay, 8; Janelle Unay, 7; Jenny Rose Gregori, 35; Michelle Unay; and Arjay Lopez, live-in partner of Llandelar.

The victims, all residents of Bacoor, Cavite, were en route to Bicol when they met the tragedy.

In Isabela, a tricycle driver, said to be drunk, died while five others were injured in an All Saints’ Day mishap involving three tricycles along the national highway in San Mateo town.

Luis Bayang, 33, of Santiago City, died on the spot when his head hit the pavement after his tricycle rammed into two other tricycles in Barangay Uno at around 4:30 p.m. on Nov. 1.

Injured were Wilson Mesa, 49, his daughter Jennifer and granddaughter Grace, a certain Ellen, and Alfredo Cadeliña, 55, and his daughter Aileen Grace.

In Angeles City, a father and son died when a speeding Toyota Innova hit their bicycle along Friendship Avenue before dawn last Wednesday, police said.

Relatives of Ramie Ragrag, 46, and his son Roldan, 11, appealed to the public to provide information on the car owner who escaped after the incident.

In Pangasinan, two motorcycle riders, one of them an employee of San Roque Power Corp. (SRPC), met their deaths when their vehicles collided in Barangay San Bonifacio, San Manuel town also on Oct. 31.

The victims, Rogelio Ducusin, 49, and SRPC worker Conrado Maminta Jr., were declared dead on arrival at the Don Laureano Perez Memorial Clinic in San Manuel town.

Meanwhile, nine people were hospitalized in Dagupan City after they figured in an accident involving two tricycles and a motorcycle along De Venecia Highway on All Saints’ Day. – Ed Amoroso, Charlie Lagasca, Ric Sapnu, Eva Visperas
