6 injured in NLEX 5-vehicle smashup

SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga, Philippines – Six people were injured in an accident involving four cars and a bus along the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) at around 8 a.m. yesterday, All Saints’ Day, in San Simon town this province.

The Tollways Management Corp. (TMC) said the vehicles were involved in a multiple collision on the northbound lane of the NLEX. Details were not immediately available.

Those injured were rushed by ambulances to the Mother Teresa of Calcutta Hospital here, the TMC said.

The accident caused a traffic snarl on the northbound lane, but the accident site was cleared at around 9:14 a.m.

The TMC, which manages NLEX for the Manila North Tollways Corp., said a 10 to 15 percent traffic build-up was expected on All Saints’ Day. Ambulant tellers, traffic patrols, and emergency personnel were deployed along NLEX to cope with it.

For this first time, the TMC activated its real-time online travel advisory system called “Nligtas” to enable motorists to monitor the traffic situation along NLEX.

“Nligtas” is available on www.tollways.net.ph as part of the “Safe Trip Mo, Sagot Ko” program.

The website, accessible via mobile phone, uses color coding representing traffic conditions. Green means light traffic, yellow, moderate, and red, heavy.
