Rats threaten 94,000 bags of Viet rice

Celso Amo, Cecille Suerte Felipe - The Philippine Star

LEGAZPI CITY, Philippines  – The Philippine Coast Guard has asked the Bureau of Customs (BOC) and the National Food Authority (NFA) to immediately resolve the status of the 94,000 bags of rice worth P112.8 million on board MV Minh Tuan 68.

Rats have started to infest the rice shipment since it was seized last Sept. 2, according to Capt. Felipe Macababad, PCG operations officer.

Christopher Indricil, BOC hearing officer, came here for a hearing on the undocumented rice import.

The Sili Multi-Purpose Cooperative and the Samahan ng mga Kapampangan sa San Ildefonso owned up their involvement in the rice shipment, which was consigned to five farmers’ groups.
