Mindoro folk enjoy benefits of CFLs

- Juancho Mahusay - The Philippine Star

CALAPAN CITY, Philippines  –  By the end of this month, some 10,000 household consumers in the first district of Oriental Mindoro will be enjoying the benefits of using free compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs).

The office of first district Rep. Rodolfo Valencia said the 10,000 CFLs were allocated by the Department of Energy (DOE) and are now nearing 100-percent distribution.

According to Valencia’s chief of staff Nico Valencia, the energy-efficient lamps are equally distributed in the first district, which includes this city and the towns of Puerto Galera, San Teodoro, Baco, Naujan, Victoria, Pola, and Socorro.

Nico Valencia said that through the K4 (Kinabukasan, Kalikasan, Kaunlaran at Kabuhayan) Council, which he heads as president, the CFLs are being distributed on a first-come, first-served basis, and brought directly to beneficiaries in the barangays.

The distribution of CFLs is part of the DOE’s Philippine Energy Efficiency Project aimed at lessening power consumption by shifting from incandescent bulbs to CFLs.
