'Special child' dead in Antipolo fire

- Non Alquitran - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - A 23-year-old “special child” was killed yesterday in a 30-minute fire that razed their house in Antipolo City.

The totally burnt body of Kenneth John Rivera was found by responding firemen at the toilet of the boy’s house at Robinsons Homes in Barangay San Jose.

Senior Superintendent Rolando Anduyan, Rizal police director, said Rivera’s parents were in Tondo, Manila and he was left behind in the house with a younger brother who was out to buy food when the fire struck at around 12:05 a.m. yesterday.

Fire prober SFO2 Niño Anore said the Riveras’ house had no electricity and had to depend on light from a candle which he said could have fallen and caused the blaze.

Seeing their house on fire, the victim’s brother tried to save him but was prevented by neighbors and responding firemen as the flames had quickly spread.
