LP picks Defensor over Tupas in Iloilo
ILOILO, Philippines – The Liberal Party (LP) has set aside one of its oldest allies in this province, former governor Niel Tupas Sr., over his long-time political rival, incumbent Gov. Arthur Defensor Sr., for next year’s gubernatorial race.
The LP announced the other day that Defensor, considered a point man of then President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, would be its standard bearer for Iloilo governor.
Sen. Franklin Drilon, a known ally and friend of Tupas, made the announcement at the Hotel del Rio in Iloilo City Thursday morning.
Defensor, Tupas, and former congressman Oscar Garin Sr. declared their alliance for the 2013 elections under the LP banner.
