No more red tide in Alaminos City, 3 Pangasinan towns, says BFAR

- Eva Visperas - The Philippine Star

DAGUPAN CITY, Philippines – The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) in Region 1 yesterday issued an advisory saying that shellfish gathered from the coastal waters in three towns and one city in Pangasinan are now red tide-free and safe for human consumption.

In the advisory, BFAR-Region 1 director Nestor Domenden said laboratory test results showed that crabs, shrimps, seashells like mussels and oysters gathered from the coastal waters of Alaminos City and in the towns of Bolinao, Anda and Bani (particularly in Barangay Wawa) are now red tide-free.

But as a precautionary measure, Domenden advised the concerned local governments to require market inspectors, quarantine officers and administrators to demand for an auxiliary invoice or clearance.

This is to ensure that any fish or shellfish that are unloaded from other provinces or municipalities did not come from areas still with red tide, Domenden said.
