Mild quakes rock Leyte
MANILA, Philippines - A magnitude 4.9 and 4.6 earthquakes rocked Southern Leyte yesterday but there was no reported damage or injuries, state seismologists said.
Renato Solidum, director of the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology, said the quake struck at 2:58 p.m. and 3:16 p.m. with its epicenter traced two kilometers northwest and 13 kms northeast, respectively of Hinunangan, Southern Leyte.
The first quake was felt at Intensity 5 in Hinunangan and Intensity 4 in Silago, Southern Leyte. The second temblor was recorded at Intensity 4.
Meanwhile, Solidum said Phivolcs has started providing information on significant earthquakes through its Twitter account @phivolcs_dost.
