Naga City braces for Peñafrancia fluvial parade
LEGAZPI CITY, Philippines – The archdiocese of Caceres has sought the assistance of the local police in Naga City to ensure the orderly conduct of the fluvial procession in honor of the Feast of Our Lady of Peñafrancia in Bicol River this Saturday.
Louie Occiano, director of the Caceres Communications Commission, said they would ban drunk devotees from joining the fluvial parade to avoid any untoward incident as what occurred during last Friday’s traslacion procession.
“Through the help of our police, and information dissemination through the media, we hope that the fluvial procession will be very orderly as it was in the past,” Occiano told reporters here.
Thousands of devotees are expected to join the fluvial procession, considered as the most popular religious activity in Bicol and the highlight of the Peñafrancia Festival.
Politicians, businessmen, showbiz personalities and devotees coming from abroad are also expected to join the festivity.
