Kadayawan ends with grand parade
DAVAO CITY, Philippines – More than 100,000 tourists trooped to the main thoroughfares of this southern metropolis yesterday to witness the much-awaited “Pamulak sa Kadalanan” floral and fruit parade culminating the month-long celebration of the Kadayawan sa Dabaw 2012 festival.
More than 100 contingents joined the floral and float parade which was preceded by the “Indak-Indak sa Kadalanan” street dancing competition last Saturday.
The city holds the Kadayawan annually as thanksgiving for bountiful harvest of crops and marine resources.
The Kadayawan also depicts unity in diversity as the Davao City population is of varied origins and ethnic groups.
Delegations from neighboring provinces took part in both the street dancing competition and the floral and float parade.
Mayor Sara Duterte expected an increase in tourist arrivals in this year’s Kada-yawan festival.
