7 dead, 8 hurt in Zambo Sibugay road accident

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines  – At least seven persons were killed while eight others were wounded when a passenger van crashed into a truck in Titay town, Zamboanga Sibugay Friday night.

Initial investigation showed that the van with plate number JVJ-276 and the truck were traveling at opposite directions when the vehicles collided at Purok Fortune in Barangay Poblacion at around 10:30 p.m.

Police Inspector Mujib Haijula, Titay police station commander, said the truck came from Oroquieta in Misamis Occidental and bound for Ipil town.

Haijula said the truck was trying to avoid a vehicle while passing through a dark corner when it collided with the van head-on and burst into flames.

The fatalities were identified as Joel Villamor, the driver of the van; Carmela Billones; Estarlito Despi Sr.; Delia Espina and her niece, Diamay Espina; Antonio Gantalao; and Froilan Dimasuhod, the truck driver.
