Suspension of Koronadal mayor upheld

- Edu Punay - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The Supreme Court (SC) recently affirmed a Sandiganbayan ruling in 2006 that preventively suspended the mayor then of Koronadal City in South Cotabato over an allegedly anomalous project.

In a ruling penned by Associate Justice Arturo Brion, the SC’s Second Division dismissed for lack of merit the petition of Mayor Fernando Miguel questioning the Jan. 25, 2006 resolution of the anti-graft court ordering his 90-day suspension pending trial of his case for violation of the anti-graft law and for falsification of public documents.

The SC ruled that the anti-graft court did not err when it ordered the suspension of Miguel, who was charged over the allegedly anomalous consultancy services for the proposed Koronadal public market project.
