Bigcas yields gun, 'shabu'
MANILA, Philippines - Suspected vehicle and firearms smuggler Lynard Allan Bigcas was nabbed in Cagayan de Oro City yesterday for illegal possession of a firearm and suspected shabu, in what a Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) official said was just an “accidental arrest.”
In a report, PDEA-Region 10 director Bob Opeña said Bigcas, earlier tagged in the smuggling of high-end vehicles from the United States, caught his men’s attention when he fell from a motorbike during an exhibition.
Opeña said he and his men accosted the man, who they did not recognize to be Bigcas as he “looked thin,” and asked if he had a permit from City Hall. This, as accidents have marred local motorcycle exhibitions.
With no permit, the PDEA agents asked for Bigcas’ driver’s license which he said was in his Toyota Hilux. Opening the car, they saw a baby Armalite and a further search yielded a sachet of suspected shabu and drug paraphernalia.
