Laguna town's ABC head gunned down

SAN PEDRO, Laguna, Philippines – The president of the Association of Barangay Captains (ABC) here was killed while his driver-bodyguard was wounded in an ambush along Maharlika Road Monday afternoon, authorities said yesterday.

Superintendent Kirby John Kraft, San Pedro police chief, said ABC president Arturo Hatulan, chairman of Barangay San Antonio, died from multiple bullet wounds while being treated at the Beato Hospital in Muntinlupa City.

Kraft said Hatulan’s security aide, Florante Trinidad, was hit in the left ear and was in stable condition.

Senior Superintendent Gilbert Cruz, Laguna police director, said Hatulan and Trinidad has just come from the town hall and were on their way home onboard a Toyota Vios when motorcycle-riding men shot them with .45-caliber pistols.

San Pedro Mayor Calixto Cataquiz and Laguna Gov. Jeorge Ejercito each offered P200,000 reward for the killers’ arrest.
