Funeral car plows into bystanders; 1 dead, 1 hurt

KORONADAL CITY, Philippines  – A man was killed and another was seriously injured after a funeral car plowed into several people standing by the roadside in Midsayap town in North Cotabato before dawn yesterday, authorities said.

Midsayap police identified the fatality as Anthony Alabida, who died while undergoing treatment in a government hospital there.

Reports reaching The STAR said the victims, together with other residents, were standing on the sidewalk along Quezon Avenue when the wayward funeral car plowed into them.

Superintendent Franklin Anito, Midsayap police chief, said they are now hunting down the driver of the funeral car.

Anito could not yet say if the driver was drunk when the incident happened.
