5 NPAs nabbed in S. Cotabato

KORONADAL CITY, , Philippines  – Army soldiers captured five suspected members of the New People’s Army (NPA) in the upper valley area of South Cotabato yesterday.

The STAR learned that the rebels were captured following an encounter in the mountainous area of Surallah town.

Lt. Col. Alexis Noel Bravo, commanding officer of the 27th Infantry Battalion based in nearby Tupi town, said the clash started at around 4 p.m. in the villages of Colonggolo and Moloy last Thursday.

“The rebels were indoctrinating some farmers in nearby villages when they clashed with our troops,” Bravo said.

Bravo said his troops arrested a suspected rebel, who introduced himself as alias Albert in Surallah town, before the clash. Albert’s 23-year-old wife, identified as Jenevieve Sundo, surrendered to authorities after her husband was arrested.
