Loren: Audit 'Sendong' funds

- Christina Mendez - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Sen. Loren Legarda yesterday called for an audit of nearly P1 billion in government funds intended for the rehabilitation of areas affected by typhoon “Sendong” in Cagayan de Oro City alone last year.

Legarda also asked for transparency on the donations from foreign countries and some of the country’s philanthropists that were given directly to the local governments and some non-government organizations.

Legarda said about P961 million was released to various government agencies from the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Fund in 2011 for post-Sendong recovery projects.

“This is apart from other government funds and the various donations we received from international organizations and foreign governments,” she said.
