Couple in 'crush videos' faces more raps
Manila, Philippines - A couple tagged in so-called “crush videos” showing the torture and killing of animals, is facing more legal problems.
This, as the Department of Justice (DOJ) added violations of the Wildlife Protection and Conservation Act (Republic Act 9147), Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act (RA 9208), and child abuse violations against Vicente and Dorma Ridon.
The People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), in a statement, said the Ridons are now detained at the La Union provincial jail, as a result of a yearlong probe by the National Bureau of Investigation.
The Ridons are on trial for producing several “crush videos” of scantily clad young girls torturing and killing animals. They were initially charged with cruelty to animals and child abuse because the girls in the videos were minors.
PETA considers this as a groundbreaking case. Its Asia vice president Jason Baker said, “Manila is ‘ground zero’ in the international war against the vile crush video industry… The Philippines has an opportunity to slam the door on animal abuse by holding the Ridons accountable for the horrific pain and misery that they have caused.” – With Jun Elias
