- Ben Serrano - The Philippine Star

BUTUAN CITY, Philippines – Five armed men ambushed the chieftain of a Manobo tribe, killing his 19-year-old daughter, in Barangay Tigao, Cortes, Surigao del Sur on Monday, authorities said.

Killed on the spot was Rezamie Iligan, daughter of Ricaldo Iligan, also known as Datu Caldo, one of the leaders of Daguing Manobo and Mamanwa of the Surigao del Sur Tribal Coalition.

The elder Iligan was wounded in the attack along with his nephew, Eric Bryan Iligan, and PO2 Jaime Taguines, who just took a ride with the Iligans from Tandag City to Madrid. They were taken to the Adela Serra Ty Medical Center for treatment.

Reports said the victims were en route to Madrid when the Toyota Fortuner they were riding was peppered with bullets.

Investigators have yet to establish the motive behind the ambush.
