Tawi-Tawi execs seek airport runway extension

- The Philippine Star

DAVAO CITY, Philippines  – Tawi-Tawi Vice Gov. Ruby Sahali has asked the national government to extend the runway in Sanga Sanga Airport to lure moretourists in the island province.

“We need another 400 to 500 meters more of the runway to accommodate bigger aircraft and bring more people in,” Sahali said.

The runway was upgraded and extended from 1,608 meters to 1,920 meters in 2009. Its landing strip was also widened from 18 to 30 meters.

“We want the airport to be further extended and the installation of additional landing facilities. The construction of a new terminal building will follow after the runway has been extended,” Sahali said.
