4 killed in Zamboanga del Sur ambush

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines – A government militiaman and three civilians were killed while another was wounded in an ambush in Dinas, Zamboanga del Sur last Friday afternoon, police said.

Chief Superintendent Napoleon Estilles, regional police director, identified the fatalities as Meraljun Doong, a member of the Citizen Armed Forces Geographical Unit active auxiliary; Andy Mengok, Danilo Zamora, and Eliodoro Galleros.

Doong’s brother Rodel survived the attack but was wounded.

Police said the victims were cruising Barangay Guinico Lalay, Dinas town onboard a service vehicle when they were waylaid at around 4:45 p.m. last Friday.

Police probers suspect that a land dispute could be behind the ambush, but were not ruling out clan war or rido, which is prevalent in the town.
