118 fishermen missing in Sarangani

- The Philippine Star

DAVAO CITY, Philippines – At least 118 fishermen were reported missing in Sarangani province as strong winds struck its coastal areas.

The strong winds also brought heavy rains that in turn caused flashfloods in the coastal towns.

Forty-eight other fishermen were rescued Tuesday after their boat sank in Sarangani Bay.

The missing fishermen reportedly came from eight villages in Maasim town: seven each from Barangays Kanalo and Tinoto, 11 from Kolon, 29 from Kamanga, 24 from Poblacion, 19 from Kablacan and Kabatiol, and two from Pananag.

Rescue operations for the missing fishermen, led by the Philippine Coast Guard, were still ongoing as of press time.
