2 Taiwanese fishermen nabbed off Cagayan

- Evelyn Macairan - The Philippine Star

Manila, Philippines -  The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) recently detained two Taiwanese nationals and seven Filipinos after they were caught on a Taiwanese fishing boat near the Calayan Group of Islands in Cagayan province.

In a statement, the PCG said its monitoring, control and surveillance team was patrolling the area at around 6 a.m. last Thursday when it chanced upon the Taiwanese fishing boat F/V JVP 1.

The team ordered the crew of F/V JVP 1 to stop the engine. When they boarded the boat, they found out that it has no commercial fishing vessel gear license.

This prompted the team to apprehend the fishermen on board. They escorted the Taiwanese boat to Port Irene, Sta. Ana, Cagayan province for proper disposition and filing of appropriate charges.
