Imus plebiscite period on today

MANILA, Philippines - The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has listed several prohibited acts in Imus, Cavite starting today as the town girds for its cityhood plebiscite.

Under Comelec Resolution 9432, a gun ban, for instance, will be in effect in Imus from today until June 30. 

Unless authorized in writing by the Comelec, “bearing, carrying or transporting firearms or other deadly weapons in public places, including any building, street, park, private vehicle or public conveyances or even licensed to possess or carrying the same” is prohibited. 

The Comelec also bars the use of security personnel or bodyguards, whether or not such bodyguards are regular members or officers of the Philippine National Police or Armed Forces or other law enforcement agencies.

The other prohibited acts during the plebiscite period are the suspension of any elective official; transfer of government employees; illegal release of prisoners during this period; and issuance of appointments, promotions, creation and filling of new positions or giving of salary increases in government offices and agencies.

The release, disbursement or expenditures of public funds are also not allowed during the plebiscite period, the Comelec said.
