Mindanao folk warned of floods, landslides

- Ghio Ong, Helen Flores -

MANILA, Philippines - The weather bureau yesterday warned residents in Mindanao of possible flashfloods and landslides as widespread rains are expected to prevail over the island in the next few days.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said an intertropical convergence zone will bring mostly cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms over Mindanao, becoming widespread rains over the Agusan, Surigao and Davao provinces.

The Visayas will also have mostly cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms.

The rest of the country will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms, mostly in the afternoon or evening.

PAGASA administrator Nathaniel Servando said the rainy season is likely to start in the third week of May.
