TUGUEGARAO CITY, Philippines – At least 23 families of the nomadic Agta tribesmen in Ilagan, Isabela were the latest beneficiaries of the government’s housing program.
Ilagan Mayor Josemarie Diaz said the housing units were built under the core shelter program of the Department of Social Welfare and Development and partly subsidized by the local government. The awarding ceremony was held during Ilagan’s 326th founding anniversary dubbed as “Aggao na Ilagan” (Ilagan Day).
Diaz said the government also reserved lots for the resettlement of people under threat of the sinking ground in the town’s eastern barangays, particularly Cabisera 5.
Almost 10 houses beside the Pinacanauan River have partly sunk because of soil siltation and landslides spawned by torrential rains last year.
