Comelec sets Negros special election period

- Sheila Crisostomo -

MANILA, Philippines - The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has set the election period to choose the replacement of the late Negros Occidental fifth district representative Ignacio Arroyo from April 18 to June 17.

Comelec spokesman James Jimenez said yesterday candidates in the June 2 special congressional elections should file their certificate of candidacy on May 14 and 15.

The Comelec had said candidates are allowed to spend only P3 per voter if they have political parties and P5 per voter if running as independents.

The campaign period will run from May 17 to May 31.

A gun ban as well as the prohibition on the transfer or detail of civil servants and public school teachers and suspension of elective provincial, city, municipal or barangay officials will be implemented in the district.

The ban on the hiring of new employees and on public works will be effective from May 3 to June 1.
