Jeep plunges into stream; 26 injured

MANILA, Philippines - Twenty-six people sustained injuries when the jeepney they were riding plunged into a stream in Romblon yesterday, authorities said.

Superintendent Nestor Quilinguen, Romblon police director, said the jeepney had come from Sablayan town and was en route to Romblon town when it met the accident.

The jeepney was traversing a steep road and was forced to back up to avoid an approaching vehicle, he said.

Quilinguen said the driver might have miscalculated, causing the jeep to plunge into the stream.
