CIDG busts counterfeit drug syndicate in Cavite

MANILA, Philippines - Agents of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) busted a syndicate allegedly involved in the importation and distribution of fake drugs in Bacoor, Cavite last Wednesday. 

The CIDG also arrested a Pakistani identified as Mohammed Yousuf Ali, 54, of Rosewood Village in Barangay Niog 2. 

Two other suspected gang members identified as Nasser Ali and Faisal Ali remain at large.

CIDG director Samuel Pagdilao said elements of the Batangas CIDG led by Inspector Jay Agcaoili and the Cavite CIDG led by SPO3 Roland Costalis raided the suspect’s hideout. 

Seized in the raid were 10 plastic bags containing assorted fake antibiotics, vitamins, pain relievers, cough and anti-diarrhea medicines.

Police also seized 24 pieces of tamper-proof seals, a laptop, a desktop computer with printer and a Toyota Granvia van. 

Agcaoili said the syndicate is engaged in the importation, repacking and distribution of fake medicines, with China and Pakistan as its main sources. 

He said the fake drugs were distributed to small stores in Batangas, Cavite, Quezon City and in some towns in the Cagayan Valley region.
