TESDA to provide training on mechanized farming

- Mayen Jaymalin -

MANILA, Philippines - The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) has announced plans to provide skills training and prepare Filipino farmers for mechanized farming.

Joel Villanueva, TESDA director general, said they would work with other concerned government agencies to equip farmers and other agrarian reform beneficiaries with the necessary skills in operating mechanized farming tools.

“TESDA would also provide farmers with the relevant training to help them transform from mere producers to entrepreneurs, which could spur economic growth in the rural areas and generate jobs,” Villanueva said.

Villanueva said the project is also meant to improve farmers’ productivity and crop value, and maximizing the benefits of the land.

There is much to be done to improve the skills of local farmers and revive the country’s agriculture industry, he said.
