Woman, daughter die in Cebu blaze

LAPU-LAPU CITY, Philippines – A woman and her daughter were charred to death when a fire hit their house in Barangay Pajac this city Monday morning, authorities said.

The fire started in the master’s bedroom on the second floor of the house of Bella Veloso, 76, a former assistant to the administration chief of the Cebu City Medical Center.

Reports said Veloso and her 32-year-old daughter Jewel, who was a special child, were sleeping upstairs when the fire broke out at around 6:30 a.m. Monday. – Flor Perolina/Freeman News Service
