MANILA, Philippines - It took Rizal policemen some six hours to subdue an armed man who went amuck Monday after several neighbors allegedly trespassed on his property in Antipolo City.
Although wounded in the left leg and arm, the suspect, Felicisino Astronomo, opened fire at responding policemen, hitting PO2 Rolando Maruquin of the Special Action Force in the right arm.
“He was positioned in a vantage point were he could see all people coming near his position. He fired at will until his nephew negotiated his surrender,” said Senior Superintendent Rolando Anduyan, Rizal police director.
Astronomo yielded a .45-caliber pistol, 28 bullets, extra magazine for caliber .45, two boxes of bullets for a 12-gauge shotgun, and a grenade.
Police recovered at least 50 empty .45-caliber shells at the scene.
