Batangas councilor, pal wounded in ambush
Batangas CITY, Philippines – A municipal councilor and his companion were wounded in an ambush in Sto. Tomas, Batangas yesterday morning, police said Senior Superintendent Rosauro Acio, Batangas police director, said Sto. Tomas town Councilor Alexander Guevarra, 47, and Edgar Ariola, 43, were traveling onboard a Toyota Fortuner to attend the burial of their friend, Marta Mabilangan, when three motorcycle-riding men fired at them along the highway in Barangay San Francisco at around 7:40 a.m. yesterday.
Guevarra sustained several gunshot wounds while Ariola had one in the thigh.
Guevarra managed to drive himself and Ariola to the St. Francis Cabrini Hospital in Sto. Tomas town to seek medical treatment.
Witnesses said the armed men fled toward Barangay San Luis, also in Sto. Tomas town.
Recovered from the crime scene were nine spent shells and three deformed slugs from an unknown caliber.
Investigators still had no leads on the ambush.
