New Davao archbishop named

MANILA, Philippines - Pope Benedict XVI has named Zamboanga Archbishop Romulo Valles as the new head of the Archdiocese of Davao, replacing Archbishop Fernando Capalla.

Valles’ appointment was announced by Papal Nuncio to the Philippines Archbishop Guiseppe Pinto Saturday night.

Prior to his transfer to Davao, Valles, 60, has served the Zamboanga archdiocese, which covers the Prelature of Ipil and Isabela, Basilan and the Apostolic Vicariate of Jolo as its suffragan dioceses.
