Drunken man hacks 'vampire'

- John Unson -

COTABATO CITY, Philippines – A drunken man hacked and wounded a scavenger who he mistook for a “vampire” in Arakan, North Cotabato Wednesday night, police said.

The victim, identified only as Edmundo, was scavenging for food and when he saw a group of men in a drinking bout, approached them and asked for drinking water.

Suddenly, one of the men, believed to be high on drugs, caused a commotion when he shouted repeatedly that the scavenger had fangs and that his lips were stained with blood.

The suspect then grabbed a bolo from the kitchen of his house and hacked the victim twice, wounding him in both arms.

Police said the victim is a mental patient but has never been violent despite his condition.
