Camella launches nationwide medical mission

-

MANILA, Philippines - Last December, Camella successfully launched its nationwide pilot medical mission, “Cause for the Holidays,” setting aside the usual Christmas tree lighting ceremony to engage in a more meaningful observance of the Christmas season.

The mission was held in partnership with local government units, volunteer medical groups, and partner diagnostic centers.

But health care knows no season and the mobile health care program that was launched simultaneously in key rural areas of Greater Manila – Cavite, Luzon (Barangay Sumapang Matanda, Malolos, Bulacan), the Visayas (Barangay Zamora-Melliza, Iloilo City), and Mindanao (Barangay Sto. Niño, Tugbok District, Davao City) gave birth to a sustained corporate social responsibility (CSR) campaign of the country’s biggest homebuilder.

A total of 2,500 people benefited from Camella’s mobile outpatient clinic that offered laboratory, x-ray services and other diagnostic exams, medical consultation and referrals to accredited specialists, and medicine not easily available at the respective areas’ health centers.

Specifically on offer to residents were pediatrics consultation, vaccination and medicine for children aged four to 10; obstetrics and gynecological consultation and pre-natal and post-natal care education for pregnant women; and geriatric health care services.

Camella president Jerylle Luz Quismundo said, “This is our way of sharing our blessings for a fruitful 2011. Once Camella lays the groundwork for its property in an area, we become more than a homebuilder – we take on the responsibility of being a community partner.”

Quismundo added: “They are people who have little access to medical facilities, health care, medicine and other services that ensure better quality of life. Some of them cannot afford to pay for even the most basic services. Camella recognizes this need and we will take a stand in addressing this pressing issue. We do not expect to stamp out the country’s health problems, but hope that our initiative will inspire more to follow suit and pitch in their share.”

Camella, focused on the mid-market segment, is a subsidiary of Vista Land and Lifescapes, the country’s largest homebuilder.

It has 36 years of experience, has built more than 250,000 homes, and maintains a strong presence in Mega Manila and 26 other key provincial destinations and 48 cities and municipalities, while aggressively expanding to other regions.
