P138-million fertilizers lost in Bataan fire
CAMP OLIVAS, Pampanga, Philippines – Chemical fertilizers worth at least P138 million were burned when a fire broke out in a warehouse at a shipyard in Mariveles, Bataan last Saturday morning, authorities said.
In a report, Senior Superintendent Arnold Gunnacao, Bataan police director, said the fire struck at around 6 a.m. and was contained after four hours.
Gunnacao said the warehouse at the Seafront Shipyard in Barangay Lucanin, Mariveles town was reportedly owned by a foreign national.
The burned fertilizers were only unloaded from a foreign vessel Friday.
A security guard, a certain Joel Levantino, suffered second-degree burns on the feet but was declared in stable condition.
Firefighters from other Bataan towns responded to the fire that was declared under control at around 10 a.m. Saturday.
