Explosives seized in Masbate-bound bus

- Evelyn Macairan -

MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) yesterday confiscated explosive materials in a passenger bus in a ferry bound for Masbate province.

In a statement, the PCG said among the explosive paraphernalia were eight boxes of blasting caps (100 pieces per box) and several kilos of chemical explosives including TNT.

PCG spokesperson Lt. Cmdr. Algier Ricafrente said the bus was on the ferry M/V King Frederick.

Philippine National Police-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG) officers Senior Inspector Edgar Callado and Inspector Edwin Adora went to the PCG station in Masbate on Monday to report about information they received that the explosives would be loaded in Elavil bus with plate number TYU-264.

The PCG station in Masbate sent two of its personnel, a K-9 team and PNP-CIDG officers to check the ferry.

The driver of the bus said he was unaware he was carrying illegal items.
