Angara to run for Aurora governor?
BALER, Aurora ,Philippines – Sen. Edgardo Angara is reportedly eyeing the gubernatorial post in this province in the 2013 elections.
“I’ll think about it,” Angara was quoted as saying in a chat with one of his allies.
Angara’s sister Gov. Bellaflor Angara-Castillo is ending her term in 2013.
His brother, outgoing Baler Mayor Arthur Angara, earlier announced his intention to run for governor with nephew Rommel as his running mate. However, Angara’s political leaders have reportedly thumbed down the tandem.
Allies of the Angaras said Arthur might eventually give way to the senator should the latter decide to run for governor.
Political observers said indications point to the senator making a run for governor. They cited his “increasing presence and visibility in the province.”
The senator spent the Christmas holidays in the province, a first in recent years. He has also been going around the province to inspect his pet projects and meet with local chief executives.
“His physical presence in Aurora has been so noticeable to be ignored and it’s a political statement although he may not admit it,” an analyst said.
But Angara said he only stays in his barangay in Reserva town. “If I really intended to run, then I would have gone around the province,” he said.
Angara’s son Rep. Juan Edgardo Angara is said to be running for the Senate in 2013.
