2 dead as boat capsizes in Isabela

BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya, Philippines  – Two people drowned after the boat they were riding capsized along a river in Barangay Villaluz in San Mateo, Isabela at around noon on Saturday.

The fatalities were identified as Evelyn Alejo, 56, and her 10-year-old grandson Jeff Santos, both of San Mateo town’s Barangay Villaluz.

According to one of the survivors, the boat was carrying nine passengers, including five children and four adults.

Reports said the boat sunk before it reached the other side of the river. Other reports said the boatman appeared to be drunk.
