- Raymund Catindig, Charlie Lagasca -

BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya, Philippines – A policeman died while another was injured after a fellow policeman who was awakened from his sleep shot them inside their service vehicle in Aritao town on Christmas Day.

Chief Inspector Roberto Aldea, Aritao town police chief, said the victims identified as PO3 Edwin Marabut and PO2 Thomas Luis boarded the vehicle to respond to a stabbing incident in Barangay Bone South.

PO3 Roberto Disipulo, who was at the back of the service vehicle, was roused from sleep and thinking that the two was kidnapping him, drew his 9-mm pistol and fired at them. Marabut was hit on the armpit and Luis on the chin.

Marabut succumbed to a gunshot wound while he was being revived at the hospital. Luis is now out of danger.

Disipulo is now in the custody of the provincial police office following his voluntary surrender.
