SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga, Philippines – Six people were reported missing when unusually heavy northeast monsoon rains hit Aurora province for three days up to last Tuesday.

In a report, the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) identified the missing residents as Cesar Vargas, Santi Reynon, and Alex Tacla, all from Barangay Sabang in Baler; and Eduardo Donato, 38; Samuel Donato Jr., 15; and Samuel Donato Sr., 31, all from Barangay Masagana in Dilasag town.

They were reported to have been swept away by rampaging floodwaters in their barangays.

The PDRRMC said the unusually heavy rains affected 3,929 families or 19,188 people in Aurora. At least 101 families were evacuated to four centers in Casiguran and Dilasag towns.

PDRRMC officials said the heavy rains started last Sunday and ceased only last Tuesday.

As of yesterday, the Baler-Casiguran Road was still impassable as landslides struck portions of it, as well as the Casiguran-Dilasag Road.   – With Ric Sapnu
