Lucban Xmas tree catches fire

- Michelle Zoleta -

LUCENA CITY, Philippines – A giant Christmas tree made from coconut materials caught fire at the Perez Park in this city Tuesday afternoon.

Gov. David Suarez personally chose the design of the 50-foot Christmas tree to promote the coconut industry in the province.

Some residents strolling at the park saw the Christmas tree on fire at around 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The city government switched on the lights of the Christmas tree only the previous day.

Provincial administrator Rommel Edano said the governor told them to put up another Christmas tree at the park.

Personnel of the Bureau of Fire Protection immediately cleared the area for the safety of passersby.
