Blasting caps seized in Samar

MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) yesterday confiscated more than 27,000 blasting caps at a port in Calbayog, Samar.

In a statement, PCG spokesman Lieutenant Commander Algier Ricafrente said a sack containing 27,051 pieces of blasting caps was discovered at the Maguinoo Port in Calbayog last Saturday by a Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) personnel patrolling the seaport.

Information reaching the PCG showed that the cargo was unloaded from M/V Filipinas Dinagat at the Maguinoo Port at around 6 a.m. on Nov. 5.

The 1,173.70 gross-ton vessel is reportedly owned and operated by Cokaliong Shipping Lines Inc. with business address at North Reclamation Area, Cebu City.

The shipment will be turned over to PCG Central Eastern Visayas District for proper disposition.
