NPAs torch Davao road equipment
DAVAO CITY ,Philippines – Suspected New People’s Army (NPA) rebels burned on Friday night three heavy equipment of a construction company working on the rehabilitation of a stretch of the Davao-Cotabato national highway in Bansalan, Davao del Sur.
Police said the rebels struck shortly before midnight Friday by pouring gasoline on a grader, a backhoe and a road roller and setting them on fire.
The equipment belonged to the CNQC construction firm, which has been contracted to rehabilitate the Bansalan-Makilala portion of the Davao-Cotabato highway.
The rebels also disarmed a company security guard, a certain Marlon Auza, of his caliber .38 revolver.
The perpetrators were reported to be onboard motorcycles and immediately fled the scene after the incident.
Authorities were still investigating if the construction company has been receiving extortion letters from the NPA.
