DPWH defers 2 flyover projects in Cebu City
MANILA, Philippines - The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has decided to put on hold the construction of two flyovers in Cebu City, with a combined cost of P700 million, and would wait until the residents and local officials have crafted their own transport master plan.
DPWH Secretary Rogelio Singson recently announced this move after he met with Cebu-based civil society groups and non-government organizations which had expressed their objection to the construction of the two flyovers.
“We had a group from Cebu (who raised) their objection to the proposed flyovers... Our position is if the people of Cebu object to that, we would not insist,” Singson said.
The first flyover is 720 meters long and located at the junction of M.J. Cuenco Avenue and Gen. Maxilom Avenue. The estimated construction cost is P480 million. The second project is a P220-million, 720-meter flyover-overpass along Gorodo Avenue and Archbishop Reyes Avenue.
